January 2023 – The RNLI will always be independent.

ANNA CLASSON, RNLI Head of Region, Ireland

The January edition of MARITIME IRELAND is a new format of 30 minutes, with a NEWSMAKER feature interview and the latest news stories and developments in the maritime sphere. On this edition, which has wide coverage of the maritime sphere, the future of the RNLI in Ireland is discussed in the NEWSMAKER feature interview with Anna Classon, RNLI Head of Region, Ireland. The Chief Executive of the Irish Fish Producers’ Organisation, Aodh O’Donnell, highlights the problems facing coastal communities. The Secretary of Comhdhail Oileán na hEireann, Rhoda Twombly, outlines the difficulties in getting housing on the offshore islands and how this is affecting young islanders who want to continue to live there. The Chief Executive of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, Dr.Simon Berrow, details the improvement works which are planned on their flagship, Celtic Mist, which was donated to the Group by the family of Charlie Haughey, its previous owners. It is a good vessel for whale and dolphin observation, but it has a problem when it rolls at sea! And there is a Coastal News Round-Up.
