SEA SCOUTS ARE VERY IMPRESSIVE

Sea Scouts are our NEWSMAKERS OF THE MONTH for April. I was invited to their annual Seamanship Awards – the Seamanship Competition for Sea Scouts, which has been run every year since 1995. Supported by the Irish Institute of Master Mariners, it was held at the National Maritime College in Cork where 24 Senior Sea Scouts competed for the Captain Desmond Fortune Founders’ Award and the Captain Cian Timmons Memorial Award, the first time the award honouring Captain Timmons, a former Sea Scout and member of the Council of the Master Mariners Institute was presented. I was impressed by the range of activities of the Sea Scouts, about which Colum McCaffrey, their Event Co-ordinator told me. You can hear the interview with him on the Podcast of the programme on this website.

Colum McCaffrey has been chosen as the national sailing association’s (IRISH SAILING) Volunteer of the Year. He is a member of Malahide Sea Scouts in Co.Dublin.
